Elijah Jimenez, 29, left us on May 5, 2026. He was born on July 26, 1996, in Houston, Texas, and from his very first day he had a way of making an impression on the whole room.
He grew up a kid from the Heights — a big brother to Adrian, a son and grandson held close by a family full of care, art, music, ideas, and lots of unique personalities. Even young, Elijah saw the world a little differently than most. He found his own way of seeing early and carried those strong ideas and a restless, questioning curiosity everywhere he went for the rest of his life.
Elijah collected people. To his best friend Alex he was a partner in every adventure — the one who could make you laugh until it hurt, and the story you'd still be telling years later. As he grew, he moved from Houston to a short stint in Dallas before heading to Chicago, where he fell in love with Janet, built a life, and came into his own.
A gifted automotive technician, he turned a love of cars and motorcycles into a craft and a calling — first at European Service Center in Houston, and later at Autonology Motor Service in Chicago. An entrepreneur at heart, he was always building something or finding a smarter, more efficient way to do it. The people who worked beside him remember him as someone whose eye and imagination raised the work of everyone around him. Away from the shop, that same spirit poured into everything he loved to create and explore — photography, film, art, and music, which he loved both to listen to and to play on his guitar.
We want to acknowledge the struggles Elijah carried in his life, heavier than many will ever know. We are heartbroken and devastated to have lost him to that pain. And while his pain was very real, what shone through was every bit of the love, humor, and light he gave to the people lucky enough to know him.
Those who knew Elijah know he lives in every memory, every story we'll keep telling about him, and in each of us who loved him.
Elijah is survived by his brother, Adrian; his father, Ruben; his stepmother, Jennifer; his grandparents, Bonnie Gardner and James and Esther Jimenez; his girlfriend, Janet; his best friend, Alex; and by aunts, uncles, cousins, and the many, many people who loved him and carry a piece of him forward.
So we can plan to welcome everyone, please let us know if you'll be joining us and how many will be in your party.
